The children are challenged to think more as scientists as the hands-on approach continues. The 19 interesting experiments are following by 5 pages of quiz questions at the end of the book. In Chapter 18 the children become forensic scientists and are given the task of solving a crime using the skills of observation, investigation, experimenting, estimating, recording, hypothesizing and communicating.
This Science Quest series complements the Geography Quest series and the History Quest series to provide a comprehensive programme of S.E.S.E. activities for children. The series reflects the changes in content, structure and teaching approaches contained in the science component of the S.E.S.E. Primary School Curriculum. It introduces children to basic scientific concepts, using experiments that are easy and safe to carry out in a classroom setting. The experiments are pitched at a level appropriate to each class. All experiments have been tried and tested in classrooms by experienced teachers. Each chapter contains Helpful Hints for teachers to pre-empt any difficulties that may arise. The setting the scene section of each chapter outlines the objectives to be addressed in each chapter. Very little expenditure is required by teachers or pupils for experiment equipment because every day objects are generally employed throughout the series.
